Gary
Gary has worked in the power industry for over 38 years. For the last 22 years he has specialized in providing engineering support to maintenance crews.

Gary has worked in the power industry for over 38 years. For the last 22 years he has specialized in providing engineering support to maintenance crews. His support has included teaching more than 200 classes on the topic of personal protective grounding and shock hazard recognition. Demonstrating and providing instruction for In-field testing of personal protective ground cables and live-line tools (hot-sticks). He, along with a colleague, developed and patented a real-time work site ground potential rise monitoring system (GPR Monitor) which has been licensed for commercial development. He led the team that developed a custom grounding stirrup for substation installations. He also developed a custom ground cable rating and sizing procedure.
Gary is a registered professional engineer in Colorado. He is a member of IEEE and serves as a member of the Engineering Safety Maintenance of Lines (ESMOL) subcommittee, where he is the chairman of the IEEE Std 1048 “Grounding for Power Lines” working group.
Gary’s experience also includes

- Member CEATI’s Grounding and Lightning Group,
- Member: EPRI’s Live-Working Group

Gary has provided technical presentations at over 20 conferences.
Gary was born and raised in Iowa. Spending his early years working on his father’s farm. He now lives with his wife, Paula, in Arvada, Colorado a suburb of Denver. They have three married children and 6 grandchildren. Gary enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking projects and teaching firearms safety courses.
